Go Green on Gather
April 10, 2007 1:45 pm
I got an email this morning from Gather.com, a MySpace-like social network for the older and wiser crowd, announcing a new contest they have. It’s called the Go Green on Gather Contest. The idea behind it is to encourage members to make (and hopefully follow) their “green resolutions.
Entries will be judged by Gather’s Editorial Team and top articles will be featured on Gather’s home page. Five finalists will be chosen and awarded a “sustainability grove” of trees which they can plant in their own property, or donate to a designated reservation. One Grand Prize winner will also receive a $250 gift certificate to Gaiam.com.
This Earth Day, April 22, make a commitment to live today without compromising tomorrow. Living a sustainable life is easier than you might think—take one step at a time, incorporating eco-friendly lifestyle changes that will make our planet healthier for future generations. It’s never too soon to start!
The rules are pretty simple:
- Join the Living a Sustainable Life Group on Gather.com.
- Write an article describing a sustainability issue and how you plan to address this with your green resolution.
- Publish your resolution to the Living a Sustainable Life group from April 9-19.
- Cross your fingers! The Grand Prize Winner will be announced Tuesday, May 1st.
Incidentally, they’re also promoting the EXPEDITION FOR CHANGE: Starbucks Earthwatch Contest…
One entrant in each category will win a spot on an Earthwatch expedition to Costa Rica! There, you’ll help improve sustainable coffee farming in Costa Rica. This positive contribution to our environment is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Um. So this is sponsored by Starbucks? Yeah, ’cause I’m sure they support their Costa Rican coffee growers as much as they support them in Ethiopia.
