Earth Day Activities in the OC

April 9, 2007 11:24 pm

With Earth Day fast approaching, I figure I’ll give a quick rundown of a few events that may be of interest.

  • The Blue Water Music Festival, organized by HelpBlueWater.com, will feature artists, musicians and filmmakers of Orange County who strive to raise ocean/environmental awareness. This event will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2007. Tickets run between $45-$100, but they also offer free admission to those who help out. Check out their site for ways to gain free admission. (Maybe it’s just me, but unfortunately, I found their site a tad difficult to read.)
  • The Earth Resource Foundation is holding an event called “Hold On to Your Butt” in Newport Beach on Saturday, April 21, 2007 beginning at 8:30 am. It’s a cigarette litter beach clean-up event in collaboration with National Youth Service Day.
  • At the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve, they’re offering a Family Access Day in Bommer Canyon. You can picnic, hike, do crafts, or just enjoy the outdoors. I believe it’s free, but you must make a reservation. (There’s an online sign-up form on their web site.)
  • The Ocean Institue in Dana Point is teaming up with marine artist Wyland and the Surfrider Foundation for Earth Day celebrations on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd. On Saturday there will be a beach cleanup, music, crafts, speakers, and more. On Sunday, Wyland will join kids in painting a mural.
  • The City of Irvine is holding a free e-waste collection event on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st. This will take place at the Irvine Civic Center from 8:30 am through 2:30 pm. It’s open to all Orange County residents, not just those living in Irvine, so if you have old cell phones, printers, answering machines, here’s your chance to unload them properly. Note that they do have a list of items they cannot accept, so be sure to read the info.
